Gee Golly Thanks!

Posted by Matt on September 26, 2008

Today marks the one week anniversary since the start of “Matt is Blogging.” Personally, this results from this week have been astounding. I have received over 350 hits in one week…wow! It makes me feel so warm and fuzzy that so many people reading this stuff. If you do the math, over 350 hits in 7 days comes out to over 50 hits per day. I can’t even get 50 people to pay attention to what I have to say in one month. Maybe this blogging thing is the most effective way to get people to pay attention to me. I have enjoyed blogging thus far. It feels good to get these ideas in text. I find myself looking froward to writing my latest entry everyday. New ideas are always popping in my head: in the car, on the train, watching tv, laying bed. I have enough ideas to last me a few weeks now. Like I said in the first post, I have a lot to say and plan on getting it all out. As long as you keep reading, I’ll keep writing.

So I would like to thank everyone for visiting the site and reading. And a special thanks to those who visit the site more than once a day to increase my blog stats! Remember, add this site to your bookmarks, subscribe for updates and make sure to leave comments and feedback if you like what you see. There are many more good things to come…including new segments like the observational humor “What’s the Deal With…?”  reader polls, and my tearful goodbye to Shea Stadium. Stay tuned!

John McCain Asks Baseball to Suspend the Season

Posted by Matt on September 26, 2008

In an effort to save his campaign and win a few votes, John McCain has asked Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to suspend the season. This move comes in wake of a crisis crippling McCain’s home state of Arizona. No, not the economy…his Diamondbacks lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3 today effectively eliminating themselves from this year’s playoffs. Although he did not impose regulation on the team while they lost 11 out of 14 in August and September….or at anytime during the team’s poor second half, he decided to intervene at this moment. How did John McCain not see the team’s decline coming? There were poor decisions made by the team executive on the field, manager Bob Melvin, but McCain did not stand up to him. He failed to act while the Dodgers loaded up on talent. The Dodgers became hot…gaining ground on the Diamondbacks and eventually passing them in the standings. The team is now one game under .500 and will not make the playoffs. This is too little too late by the Presidential candidate.

Pundits are speculating that McCain’s proposal to suspend the season is really an effort save Brandon Webb’s bid for the Cy Young Award. Although he has won 22 games this season, Webb has had a mediocre second half and his ERA now stands at a respectable, but not great 3.24. He is loosing ground in the Cy Young race to the San Francisco Giants’ young star, Tim Lincecum. The 24 year-old Lincecum is second to Webb in wins (with 17…on a bad team), but leads the league with 266 strikeouts and has posted a 2.66 ERA, which posts second in the league behind Mets ace Johan Santana. Many argue that Lincecum is now the front-runner for the award. John McCain’s proposal leaves many to believe that this is a purely political move.  He is bailing out Webb from losing any more votes to Lincecum.

The McCain campaign has also began to attack Lincecum with harsh, negative ads. These ads are receiving criticism from the media because they are complete lies with no shred of truth.  For example, today in California this ad appeared:

“Tim Lincecum…what kind of name is that? His name ends in ‘cum.’ That’s disgusting! Only one kind of person would end their name in ‘cum’…and that is a porn star. Tim Lincecum supports child pornography. Brandon Webb only copulates with his beautiful wife. Vote Webb for Cy Young. I am John McCain and I approve this message.”

The McCain campaign is trying to scare the writers association into believing that the fabric of society will crumble if Lincecum is awarded the Cy Young, which he clearly deserves. McCain has had Brandon Webb’s last eight starts to make the case that Webb deserves to be elected the winner…but now he is loosing and is willing to sink to new lows in order to win.

When asked to comment, Sirius Satellite Radio sports broadcaster, Mike “Mad Dog” Russo (who is an avid Giants fan) said, “Man, I thought I would do anything to do win. I even said I would give up my children for a Giants’ World Series victory, but what John McCain has done…well that’s just despicable.”
